What To Expect On Sundays
Each Sunday, our entire church gathers to celebrate Jesus, and receive his gifts. We believe that when we meet, we’re doing more than just getting together, or watching a show, or having a religious observance. We believe that God is active in our midst, speaking to us in correction, challenge, encouragement, and hope. We believe that when we meet we are encountering the God of the Universe, and receiving from him what we all desperately need: Jesus.
Here’s what you can expect. We arrive at our building a few minutes before ten, catch up with friends we may not have seen that week, and find our seats. There are people stationed to help you park, find any information you need, and get to know you a little bit before we begin. Everyone’s dressed pretty normally. Some may be in shirts and ties, while some sport shorts and flip-flops. We’re united around something more important than our fashion sense. At ten o’clock we begin with some Scripture reading or singing. We sing old and new songs about Jesus; reading the words from a screen. We may use ancient prayers and liturgies that express our unity with Christians from all ages. Next, one of our pastors will get up to preach that week’s sermon from the Bible. When he finishes, those who trust in Jesus will celebrate Communion together, and we’ll sing a few more songs. Then, after a few announcements, we’ll be sent back into our ordinary lives to love and follow Jesus throughout the rest of the week. The whole service takes around 75 minutes. Often times when we’re done, people will go out to lunch together and connect over some food.
