Partnership
In the New Testament Scriptures, when someone comes to faith in Jesus Christ, they identify themselves with the church. In our individualized culture, many are concerned more with their “personal relationship with Jesus” than with the community Jesus calls us to. But biblically speaking, there are no lone-ranger Christians. There is no category in the New Testament for a Christian who is not actively involved in the life of a church.
Therefore, at 1.21 we take Church membership very seriously. Rather than viewing the church as a club that we can enter or leave on a whim, we believe that it is the Body and Bride of Christ. As such joining the church demands a high level of commitment. When someone joins with us they are moving from being consumers and spectators to investors and participants. They identify themselves as someone who is going to get serious and make things happen at 1.21.
Our church is governed by elders, served by deacons, and mobilized by covenant partners. In other words, we trust our pastors to hear from God and determine what should happen, deacons will serve, being sure needs are met, and covenant partners will implement, work and actually get things done. Therefore joining with us means committing to work. And trust us; we’ll put you to work!
But joining the church isn’t all about giving, it’s also about receiving. By identifying yourself with the church, you place yourself under the care of our pastors, who are specifically pledged to take care of you. While we want to help everyone who’s involved with the church, we know that, realistically, we can’t. Our covenant partners are our priority. Additionally, you can be sure that if you join with us, we won’t let you get off track spiritually. Joining the church provides you with spiritual protection.
Because covenant partnership is such a big commitment, we want to be sure that people know what they’re getting into. So we have a specific process designed to guide you into this decision. You’ll learn what we’re about, what we do, what we believe, and what we expect of partners. You’ll have the opportunity to get your questions answered, and get to know our pastors. And then you’ll have the opportunity to join with us. For more information about the partnership process, or just to get started, please email Pastor Gene - gene@121church.org
