Hello 1.21,
I pray that your week is off to a great start. I wanted to touch base with all of you and follow up what we celebrated this past Sunday as we talked about some very exciting things that God is doing in the midst of our family. I am so amazed to see how far our church has come in such a short amount of time. All of you have been truly amazing and supportive of 1.21 Church. We have gone through a lot to get the church to where it is and it could not have happened without you. I feel now for the first time that we have the right church in the right location and that is going to make all the difference in the upcoming months and years.
I have been praying about my role at 1.21 Church and how can God use me to affect change for His kingdom. Namely, where does God want me to be to make the biggest impact for him and for his glory. About a month ago I got a call from Vintage 21 in Raleigh (another Acts 29 church) asking me if I wanted to come on staff and help them to build their church. It is a dream job. If I could write my own job description this would be it. At first, I said, no way. My heart is to see 1.21 grow and flourish and become all that I know it can be. And I thought, "I can't leave. Who will pastor the church?" But, after much prayer, it is clear that God needs our family there. They are a fairly young church of about 600-800 that needs some help in the maturation area. That is where I will come in. Also, I will begin to work on a multi-siting and church planting project for Vintage 21 as they look to reproduce themselves in a healthy way.
A big piece of how God has answered this is by sending Stephen, who has preached for me recently, and his family. He is a great leader and has what it takes to make 1.21 Church happen. He is going to take over 1.21 Church for me and carry it forward with the same vision and mission. Nothing will change except the face of the lead pastor. If I could pick anyone to lead the charge, he would be the one. He has a clear understanding of how to conceptualize the gospel, has good theological training, and a heart for reaching the lost. God has clearly sent him to us. I will stay involved with him and provide coaching and support. Looking back, I realize now that my role was to plant and replant the church to get it to where it is. Stephen's job will be to water it, and then God will give the increase (1 Corinthians 3:6). I realize that for me to stay would be totally selfish and would hinder our church from going to the next level.
We need you to dig in and support 1.21. It has never been about a man (me), but rather the man (Jesus) and the mission that He has given us. You are a tremendous asset to the church and the church will need you like never before.
The Plitts are very excited about this next chapter that God has turned for us, and at the same time, we will be sad to not see everyone on a weekly basis. But, it is about all of us working together to build His church no matter where we are. Pray that our house sells quickly and that everything will continue to move smoothly. We love you and we are very proud of all that you bring. If you weren't there this past Sunday, please listen to the sermon below and it will fill you in on all of the details. Feel free to call or email with any and all questions.
For His Glory,
Will
